Licenses & Certifications
A current Pennsylvania fishing license, signed in ink and displayed (attach to a hat or clothing), is required of persons age 16 and over to fish or angle for any species of fish. Licenses and permits can be purchased at License Issuing Agents, County Treasurer offices, Fish & Boat Commission offices, or online with a credit card at fishandboat.com. Boating Safety Education Certificates are required to operate a personal watercraft and for persons born on or after January 1, 1982, to operate boats powered by motors greater than 25 horsepower. Take this Pennsylvania–approved course to complete your online boating safety education. Typically, it takes about 3.5 hours to go through the online course, excluding any quizzes and/or exams and re-studying that you may choose to do. Your certification is valid for life. The Pennsylvania Boat Ed Course fee is $39.95. You will also pay a $10.00 Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission fee and a $5.00 PFBC admin fee. For more info, click here.
